What are the prerequisites for the new CCNP courses?

Please refer to the below mentioned points. Please note that although no prerequisites are indicated for CCNP Switch, all CCNP courses presume knowledge at the Cisco CCNA® routing and switching level. CCNP v6.0 Course Prerequisites:

ROUTE - None (Recommended: SWITCH or BCMSN)
TSHOOT - SWITCH or BCMSN –and– ROUTE or BSCI

Which courses are part of the new Cisco CCNP® v6.0 curriculum?

The CCNP v6.0 curriculum that aligns with the new Cisco® certification exams consists of three new courses:

CCNP: Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE), which replaces Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (BSCI), is scheduled for release in July 2010
CCNP: Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH), which replaces Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks (BCMSN), is scheduled for release in July 2010
CCNP: Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks (TSHOOT) is scheduled for release in April 2010

These three new courses will replace the current four CCNP v5.0 courses. Please note that two of the v5.0 courses, Implementing Secure Cisco Wide Area Networks (ISCW) and Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks (ONT), do not have a direct replacement. The content of these courses has either been incorporated into the three new courses, or dropped from the CCNP curriculum.

How is the new CCNP curriculum structured?

The new CCNP v6.0 curriculum comprises three semester long, 70-hour courses that align with the three new CCNP certification exams: CCNP ROUTE, CCNP SWITCH, and CCNP TSHOOT. Course components include hands-on lab activities, case studies, chapter quizzes, a final exam, and a skills based assessment. The CCNP courses will not have the traditional GUI-based curriculum. It is replaced by a Cisco Press textbook.

I am currently a valid CCNP. How can I achieve a CCNP Routing and Switching?

If you are currently a CCNP, you will automatically become a CCNP Routing and Switching in the Cisco database. In the event you recertify, you will get your CCNP Routing and Switching badge.

Will instructor training be offered remotely?

CATCs and regional academies are strongly encouraged to offer Blended Distance Learning options for CCNP instructor training.

Who will offer instructor training?

Instructor training will be offered by CCNP, CATCs and regional academies like Learnfly Academy who are the authorized training partners.
